It's time to start talking up Duel 2015!

Register Here!

For those who haven't done a FAST Duel, here's the deal in a nutshell:
A standard autocross course = a complete circuit. For the Duel, there are two starting lines, a half-course apart. Two drivers, no clocks. First one to reach their finish wins!

We've been doing this event for years under a few different names. Most recently, it's been called the FAST Duel, a name we're rather fond of. This year's Duel will be run just like the last one, except for the course. The event is run as a double-elimination tournament with groups of 8 drivers based loosely on their FAST classing. (some classes may be grouped together with the slower-classed cars being handicapped, and if there are large classes, they may be split)

Why do we call it a Duel? Well, historically, we always seeded the tournament grids with drivers based on their prior performance. That works well, but I had another fun idea. Why do WE need to create the grid at all? Why not just produce a seeded list for each bracket and then give the bottom-seeded driver his choice of opponents? And thus the "FAST Duel" was born! The lower-seeded drivers get to "challenge" their opponent to a duel! (and you can be as dramatic about that as you wish!)

Be sure to read the 2015 FAST DUEL Rules
(this will just give you a good idea of how the whole thing works, and includes a FAQ)

And, of course, here's the new Duel 2015 Course

Now, much like the Endurocross, a good Duel tournament takes a lot of extra time and is a pretty inefficient way to do an autocross event. For that reason, it has to be a limited entry event. In this case, the entry limit will be 48 drivers. This event also requires a certain degree of autocross experience, since you'll be sharing the course with another car. So, novices are not permitted. For this event, we consider "novice" to be less than 3 prior autocrosses.

Due to the limited entry, and included event t-shirt, the driver entry fee for this event will be $63. You'll get a minimum of 3 practice runs, and 3 competition runs... and a bunch more if you're WINNING! And you'll get the unique experience of head-to-head no-clocks autocross, there's nothing else like it. And, of course, the World Famous FAST Lunch!

Limited edition FAST Duel 2015 shirts can also be ordered by event guests or even people who aren't attending. But, they must be ordered before Feb 20.

Get signed up! This is the coolest autocross you will ever compete in.

This is one of the funnest 'alternative' forms of autocross, period. If you have not signed up for this one yet, get registered. This event is always an incredible good time!

Some new Duel info:

  • Register by Thursday, Feb 19 if you want a shirt.
  • Starting Friday, Feb 20, NO SHIRTS will be available (we're not ordering any extras), and entry fee will be reduced to $48.
  • If the entry count stays low, we'll offer more practice runs to those in attendance.
  • Registration CLOSES on Monday, Feb 23 at 6:00pm. Get yourself registered before then!
  • IMPORTANT: Be sure you list the correct car and class that you intend to run! Last minute classing changes are troublesome with this event.

If you're still not sure what the Duel is all about, you'll find that most of your questions are answered here:

Final Duel Results

In close to 20 years of doing the Duel and its predecessors, several things have become clear. The biggest thing is that it is absolutely unpredictable, and that is part of what makes it so much fun! The drivers that you expect to win do not always win. The drivers that shine at the beginning sometimes falter at the end. The drivers that lose their first or second match sometimes make an astounding comeback and win. There are matches that are too close to call. There are matches where the driver that finishes first does NOT win because they hit more cones. All of these things happen. Every single time. That is the Duel.

This event was no different. There were drivers such as Drew Scoda, Denny Kort and Trevor Renson who just plain dominated all day, handily winning their classes undefeated. There were drivers like Jeremy Ogle, Doug Adams, Ron Rice and Philip Petrie who had an early misstep, but were otherwise ON FIRE all day. Especially Philip, who almost unseated the overall winner, Trevor Renson, with about half the power on all-season tires! There were people who shall remain nameless who nobody would have ever expected to be among the "2 and out" crowd (all were #1 and #2 seeded drivers!). There was the wildcard factor of a wet course that threw a lot of people off of their game, while teaching others that they were better at driving in the wet than they thought. All in all, it was a unique event in and of itself... and yet, it was everything that a Duel should be. Win or lose, all competitors enjoyed the thrill of one-on-one autocross competition.

Thanks for playing! And if you didn't play... we hope to see you at the next one.
