RallyFL is doing a rally on March 21. Get registered by March 16th! (or March 20th for late registration)

http://rallyfl.org/march-7-2015-skipping-disney/

March 21 - Skipping Disney
This route takes us through some of Old Florida across the middle of the state while completely avoiding the mouse. We’ll be starting Northeast of Tampa and ending in Lakeland after traveling through bits of Hillsborough, Lake, Orange and Polk Counties. Will be around 4 hours of drive time in total with a late morning start (so be sure to eat brunch or an early lunch, or bring a snack!) and ending with an early dinner at Harry’s in Lakeland. There will be some optional unpaved segments of this route for those who care to take interesting shortcuts.

Plan on 10:30am until about 4:00pm, a little later if you’re planning to eat. (Harry’s has some good Cajun and Seafood!) The route begins on the South side of Dade City and ends in downtown Lakeland. Specifics will be emailed to entrants a few days before the event.

Registration
Pre-registration is required no later than 8:00pm on March 20. But, please register as early as you can. We need a good count of cars and people to effectively plan the event.

Entry is limited to 30 cars max. So, if you really want to do this, don’t dawdle, get registered! The entry fee is $32 and you can register here.

NOTE: Entry fee increases to $42 the week of the event. Register by March 16 and save yourself $10!

Basic Event Info
This is a “Team” Event – a team is a car, a driver and a navigator… if you happen to bring a vehicle with more than two seats, you can have more people, but you can’t have less. Each team must have an internet-capable smart-phone with a camera and the ability to email photos.

Your smart phone and GPS can also be used at your whim to help you track your location, help you get lost, help you get unlost, call 911, view porn, create porn, text other teams with trash-talk, or anything else that there may or may not be an app for. (be aware that signal may be sparse on parts of the route)

Each team will be given a set of simple route instructions. These will not by cryptic “TSD Rally” style instructions, just straightforward “get you there” instructions. With one or more sets of keen eyes, you should be able to find all of the scavenger hunt items by simply following this path. Even if you don’t find everything, you’ll travel some really cool back roads that you’ve probably never been on before.

The Rally will be done in four legs of 45-50 minutes each. Each round will end at a specified checkpoint at a specified time. Points will be awarded for reaching each checkpoint on-time. In the spirit of TSD rally, points will be deducted for being early OR late, the goal being to reach the checkpoint exactly on time.

For at least one Leg, there will be a list of items to find and PHOTOGRAPH. Photos will be scored based on clearly showing the item plus at least one team member and/or their car. Bonus/Penalty points for excellent/crappy photos and anything else worthy of a bonus or penalty. Other Legs will be scored based on music-themed trivia questions related to items seen on the route.

Classing
There are only two classes, Novice and Experienced. If all members of your team have competed in less than 6 rally events, you may enter in the Novice class. If any member of your team has competed in more than 5 rally events, your team is Experienced.

FAQ
Will I have to take my car down bumpy-ass dirt roads? No! Unless you want to. There will be literally no more than a a mile or two of unpaved roads on this route. Just one or two little connectors between obscure paved roads. Alternate (boring) routes will be provided for those who don’t care for the dirt. The rest of the route is fully paved and mostly in excellent condition.

I’ve got someplace to be, can I leave early? The 4pm finish time includes time for evaluation and scoring of photos and answers, and handing out awards. We should be DONE with all of that by 4pm, probably earlier. If we get started on time, the last cars should be finishing the route around 3:30pm. If you really need to be somewhere earlier, be sure to arrive early and let me know so that you can be one of the first cars out and finish earlier than most. And, of course, you can abandon the route at any time if you need to… just let me know if you do!

What if I can’t find a navigator? Then you’re not trying hard enough! Ask around on forums, social media, whatever. Call your friends, family, co-workers. It’s not THAT hard to find somebody to go for a fun backroads drive with you! You could offer to navigate for someone else, as well.

I’ve never done anything like this, should I be nervous? Nah. This isn’t a”real” TSD rally. The instructions are written to NOT get you lost or to confuse you in any way. The segment times are generous enough to allow for stops for photo ops. The goal is just to have fun exploring the countryside, emphasis on the FUN!

Won’t I get in trouble if I get caught racing on public roads? Stop right there! That’s NOT what we’re doing! This is NOT a race. If you’re expecting a race, please stay home! IF you opt to drive at imprudent speeds or otherwise drive irresponsibly, yes, you could be ticketed. Worse yet, you could crash your car, hurt yourself, or hurt someone else. You’re not on a race track — this is not a race.

$699 entry fee? I'm clearly doing this wrong.

But, I can't get people to register at $32, so $699 probably won't happen.

Anyway... if y'all want to see THIS rally happen, get registered!

I love the rally's. Sadly I don't think that I'll have my clutch done in time so I'll probably be in the Versa again *shudders*

Pretty much everyone who's done one has really enjoyed them. And yet, getting people to register for one is like pulling teeth!

Clearly. I read their website...it boils down to "pay us lots of money to use you and your car to advertise our sponsors!" Maybe if you boosted the price and printed up some stickerz....

I appreciate that there's money to be made that way, but I just don't have the heart for it.
