I have a 2010 Sport and discovered a 1.5" vertical rip near the vertical seam on the left side behind the door area.

1. Any experience with flex-tape for a temp seal?

2. There appears to be two different materials when it comes to replacing the top, vinyl or canvas. Any feedback as to which is best in this climate?

3. There are a few repair shops in the Clearwater area including "Just Miata." Any experiences with this one or others?

I installed a $150 eBay vinyl top on my beater 3 years ago with excellent results. I realize your situation is different and if all else fails you could check with Rayco in St. Pete. They've been around for a long time.

I've bought both canvas and vinyl, won't buy canvas again; not worth the extra expense, care, and cleaning to me.

I installed a new canvas top sometime last year, and couldn't be happier. This was on my 2002, so your model is different, but putting a new top on my Miata was nothing like installing a top on an old car. Every hole was pre punched- you can't put it on wrong, too tight, or too loose.
My tan canvas had been no more maintenance then just washing the car. I have no stains or issues with it and it opens and closes easier than my previous Robbins vinyl top. I think my top is sierra brand.

I tried to contact cement a patch on the inside of my old cracked top. The crack was only 1/2". It didn't hold. I then used a vinyl repair kit to repair the outside, and glued a new patch on the inside. It lasted about two months before it cracked too. I really think anything you do will only be a short term did.
